Toward Honda’s Avatar Robot
Honda R&D is developing a next-generation avatar robot designed to extend human abilities across distance – enabling a suer to “experience” remote environments and perform complex tasks as a true second self. This avatar system integrates mobility, perception, manipulation, and immersive remote operation so operators can act with confidence even when working far from a physical site.
The dexterous robotic hand is one component of this broader vision. Honda R&D’s frontier hardware advances – combined with HRI-US’s foundational work in shared autonomy, multimodal perception, extrinsic dexterity, and human-to-robot skill transfer – are converging toward an even more capable system.
Together, these efforts move Honda closer to its vision of a future where people can use seamless telepresence in their everyday lives
