​​Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a motivated and innovative research intern to work on a project involving robots learning to adapt to new tasks in a multi-agent environment with minimal prior experience. This includes developing and implementing state-of-the-art metaRL approaches to enhance adaptability and versatility of robotic systems to collaborate with humans in the real world. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in robotics, artificial intelligence, or a related field, with expertise in deep reinforcement learning. Excellent problem-solving skills, a passion for innovation, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Explore and develop novel algorithms and techniques that enable robots to adapt and learn new tasks autonomously in teams
  • Implement one or a combination of algorithms involving meta-learning, transfer learning, lifelong learning, and other similar approaches in simulation
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to design and implement cutting-edge solutions.
  • Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals     

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Ph.D. candidate in robotics, computer science, or similar fields
  • Research experience in projects related to reinforcement learning, meta learning, transfer learning, lifelong learning
  • Excellent programming skills in Python, C++, and experience with popular machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch)

 

Bonus Qualifications

  • ​Familiarity with working with LLMs/VLMs
  • Hands-on experience with RL libraries
  • Strong publication records in topics related to multi-agent system in robotics or AI conferences (ICRA, IROS, RSS, CORL, NeurIPS, AAAI, AAMAS, ICLR, etc.)
  • Passion for learning new software tools and languages
  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills
