Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a research intern to join our interdisciplinary team, working at the intersection of generative AI, robotics, machine learning, and psychology. The intern will contribute to innovative research leveraging movement as a universal communication medium, bridging diverse populations without the constraints of language barriers. This role focuses on developing computational frameworks to assess and enhance human interactions within AI-mediated group environments. Interns are highly encouraged and supported to publish their research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and implement frameworks for extracting and processing multimodal behavioral data within group interaction context.
  • Design and validate measures to evaluate conversational and movement-based behavior.
  • Analyze human-human-AI interaction data and interpret results to support research outcomes.
  • Develop multimodal computational models to analyze and predict human states in group interactions.
  • Collaborate effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Document research findings clearly and contribute to research publications and presentations.  

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Human-Robot Interaction, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with deep learning and machine learning methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • A proven track record of research publications.  

 

Bonus Qualifications

  • Prior experience with generative AI and large language models (LLMs).
  • Research experience in psychology, education, or related fields.
