Research Intern: Agent-Based Autonomous Vehicles

​Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a motivated intern to focus on research related to agentic AI for autonomous vehicles. The task will involve developing a reasoning agent that can respond to unstructured user requests and dynamic scenes where the agent may interact with or respond to their surroundings. The project involves incorporating LLMs and VLMs into robotic systems that are capable of running in real-time.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Design architectures to connect reasoning agents with sensing and actuation.
  • Minimize the possibility of failure, and develop methods to detect and recover from failures when they occur.
  • Implement algorithms and analyze their performance.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • M.S. candidate in robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Research experience in planning, machine learning, or robotics.
  • Excellent programming skills in C++ and Python.

 

Bonus Qualifications

  • Ph.D. candidate in robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with ROS2 (Robot Operating System).
  • Publication record of planning on robotic systems.
  • Experience running foundation models on embedded hardware.
