Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a research-focused engineer knowledgeable in semantic segmentation and mapping techniques for remote-sensing applications. This role will support current projects focused on using drones to generate navigation maps and identifying goal positions for UGVs.
Mountain View, CA

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Develop a semantic segmentation model for aerial images from a birds-eye-view perspective.
  • Explore novel approaches for handling unwanted segmentations via segmentation manipulation.
  • Write a research paper on the work conducted to be published at a major robotics conference.
  • Weekly meetings to discuss updates/ideas for the work being conducted.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • PhD candidate or postdoc in CS, CE, ME, or similar disciplines.
  • Comfortable in Python and/or C++ programming languages.
  • Must have experience with training semantic segmentation models for remote sensing applications.
  • Basic computer software: Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

 

Bonus Qualifications

  • Published a paper in the field of remote-sensing at a major robotics conference.
  • Knowledgeable in segmentation manipulation on high-resolution images.
  • Experience with using real-world drone data for semantic segmentation.
  • Experience with generating orthophotos using real-world drone images.
