​Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a research intern to join our interdisciplinary team, working at the intersection of generative AI, robotics, machine learning, and psychology. At its core, this role focuses on developing robotic agents to support human-human interactions. This involves the development of computational frameworks that can evaluate behavioral states in group interactions, as well as the design and development of multimodal robot behaviors that enrich group interactions in ways that support target outcomes. Interns are highly encouraged and supported to publish their research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.

Key Responsibilities

 
  • Develop and implement frameworks for extracting and processing multimodal behavioral data within group interaction context.
  • Develop multimodal computational models to analyze and predict behavioral states in group interactions.
  • Investigate, design, and develop robot roles and behaviors to support target outcomes.
  • Collaborate effectively within a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
  • Document research findings clearly and contribute to research publications and presentations.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Human-Robot Interaction, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with deep learning and machine learning methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS.
  • Experience developing LLMs or using LLMs with API access.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch.
  • Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • A proven track record of research publications.

 

Bonus Qualifications​

  • Past experience with human behavior datasets.
  • Past involvement in social robotics research.
