Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) seeks an outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of soft matter science, polymers, and functional materials. This contingent appointment offers an opportunity to develop fundamental understanding and novel technologies involving smart materials with adaptive, stimuli-responsive, or self-healing behavior.

Key Responsibilities
|
|
- Conduct independent and collaborative research on polymeric and interfacial soft matter systems.
- Design, synthesize, characterize, and evaluate smart materials with adaptive or functional properties.
- Investigate soft matter interactions with inorganic materials (e.g., surfaces, nanoparticles, ceramics) and/or biological materials (e.g., cells, tissues, biomolecules).
- Develop and apply experimental approaches to understand structure–property relationships.
- Analyze data, publish research findings, and present results to technical audiences.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to new research initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise working with polymers and interphase systems.
- Experience at the interface of soft matter with inorganic and/or biological materials.
- Experience developing or studying smart materials exhibiting stimuli-responsive, self-healing, adaptive mechanical, or related functional behaviors.
- Strong experimental, analytical, and scientific communication skills.
- Evidence of research excellence through publications, patents, or equivalent accomplishments.
- 0 - 2 years of relevant work experience.
Bonus Qualifications
- Postdoctoral or industrial research experience in soft matter or advanced materials.
- Expertise in materials characterization, surface science, rheology, microscopy, spectroscopy, or mechanical testing.
- Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments and translating fundamental discoveries into emerging technologies.
