Human User Study & Data Engineering Specialist

This role is focuses on designing, coordinating, and standardizing human data collection and analysis workflows that will shape HRI's future research toward Harmonious Hybrid Society. Acting as a bridge between cognitive/social sciences, multimodal data processing, and system validation, the position ensures that user studies and human data become a scalable, reusable asset across the organization. The specialist will drive cross-divisional efforts to unify practices, strengthen compliance, and maximize research impact.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop long-term plans for human data collection, annotation, and testing aligned with HRI's research strategies.
- Establish and maintain protocols for data collection, annotation, validation, analysis, and archiving.
- Guide and support research teams across the divisions in planning, logistics, and execution of human-subject studies.
- Ensure compliance with human data collection standards, bioethics regulations, and internal data governance policies.
- Lead and manage deployment and integration of VR, physiological sensors, behavioral surveys, and other multimodal HMI systems.
- Streamline workflows, tools, and data assets to reduce duplication, support scalability, and cross-team knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with teams to embed human data into prototypes, demonstrations, and publications supporting HRI initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications

- M.S. in Human Factors, HCI, Psychology, Ergonomics, or related field
- Expertise in human factors, multimodal data collection, UX, and human-robot interaction methods
- Experience leading human-subject studies (in-person and online, small- and large-scale)
- Proven ability to develop scalable, standardized research protocols
- Hands-on experience with VR eye tracking, physiological sensors, and other multimodal systems
- Proficiency in advanced statistical and qualitative analysis
- Record of publications in human factors, ergonomics, or HRI
- Strong skills in experimental design, workflow management, and study execution
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience in presentations, proposals, and technical documentation
- Knowledge of privacy regulations, compliance standards, and data governance practices
