​Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US) is seeking a summer intern to join our Material Science team focused on nanocatalyst synthesis for fuel cell applications. Interns will assist in the preparation of Pt-based alloy catalysts, surface modification and structural characterization using advanced analytical techniques. They will also support electrochemical performance testing and contribute to efforts in optimizing catalyst activity and durability. This position provides a strong foundation in applied catalysis and clean energy research.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in the design and preparation of novel catalyst materials for fuel cell applications
  • Carry out laboratory experiments involving catalyst synthesis and surface modification
  • Assist with material characterization using a range of analytical and imaging methods
  • Contribute to electrochemical evaluations to asses performance of catalysts
  • Record experimental results, interpret data and share insights with the research team

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Current undergraduate student in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or a related STEM field

 

Bonus Qualifications

  • ​​Graduate students in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields are encouraged to apply. 
  • Prior experience in chemical laboratory work, including nanomaterial synthesis or solution preparation, is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with techniques such as microscopy, spectroscopy, or electrochemical testing is a plus. 
  • Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and an interest in catalysis or sustainable energy will be advantageous.
